NHS and Costs
Can I have a free NHS examination?
You are entitled to a free NHS test in the following categories:
> under 16’s / student under 19
> over 60
> diagnosed diabetic or with glaucoma
> you are over 40 & have a family history of glaucoma (parent, child or sibling)
> you are blind or partially sight registered
> you have complex lenses (over 10.00D)
> receive certain benefits – see below
What help is there towards costs of glasses or contact lenses?
Vouchers towards costs have a value depending on the prescription.
Entitlement includes:
> children/ students under 19
> if you or your partner receive income support, pension credit guarantee credit, universal credit, income related employment and support allowance, income based jobseekers allowance
>complex lens prescription
What are the payment methods you accept?
We accept most cards except American Express, cash or cheque
How much is a private examination
Sight tests are currently £30
How much are contact lens checks?
All aftercare appointments / checkups are included in the costs of contact lenses supplied by us
If sourced elsewhere, checkups are £ 30
How much are contact lenses?
Contact lens fitting fees are £65 for new patients or £35 for refits
Contact lenses cost from £20 per month for monthly disposable lenses, from £32 per month for dailies
How much are spectacles?
Variable depending on frame, lens type, prescription and voucher allowance but can be from £38 upwards
